BR British Railways Steam Locomotive Class D11_1 62667 Somme at Lincoln St Marks in 1955
In 1953/4 six ex-GCR D11 ‘Director’ 4-4-0s were transferred to Lincoln for use on Lincoln-Derby and Lincoln-Nottingham (via Newark) services. They remained there on these duties until the Spring of 1957. The six were Nos 62660/3/5/6/7 and 62670. Here, seen at Lincoln St Marks shed (ex-MR) in early 1955, No 62667 ‘Somme’ has returned from overhaul (November 1954) and looking very smart in lined black livery. Repaints after October 1956 were finished in plain black without lining - including No 62667 which had a final general overhaul in November 1956. At the time of this photograph, some LMS garratts were finding their way to Lincoln and No 47992 of this type can be seen on an adjacent road. No 62667 was reallocated to Sheffield Darnall in March 1957, from where it was withdrawn in August 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works shortly afterwards.
