LNER London and North Eastern Railway Class N2 2676 at Hatfield in1937
Casting a pall of sulphurous smoke over the countryside, N2 0-6-2T No 2676 brings a northbound class J goods near Hatfield along the east coast main line in 1937. The train is made up of 18 private owner wagons which appear to be carrying coal. Built at Doncaster in january 1929, No 2676 was allocated to Hatfield in 1934 and stayed there for most of its remaining career, which ended in 1960 as No 69582. The N2s were extensively used for local passenger services in North London. The upside down Grange Farm destination board on the smokebox door signifies an earlier working to the Harrow suburbs.
