BR British Railways Steam Locomotive Class ROD 3023 at Bristol in 1955
A fine summer’s day scene at Bristol, in May 1955: ROD 2-8-0 No 3023 of Tyseley shed (84E) has brought in a freight and has been parked in a quiet corner of St Philip’s Marsh shed. There is plenty of coal in the tender which may already have been replenished for the return working. Time was running out for this engine as withdrawal came just five months later in October 1955. It probably never once saw a cleaner’s rag in BR ownership. The evidence here supports that view. The ‘Hall’ in the right background was wearing (dirty) BR black livery as were all ‘Halls’ in the mid 1950s. By the end of the 1950s, all were green.
