BR British Railways Steam Locomotive Jumbo Class 57273 at Perth South in 1950s
Seen at Perth South shed on an overcast day in the 1950s, near the end of its long career, Drummond small jumbo No 57273 (from Dumbarton) is in largely original condition. It still carries the shapely Drummond chimney, replaced by a stovepipe on many others of its type. It is also still fitted with an original style boiler which had a thinner, taller and more rounded dome than the later boilers fitted to most other members of this class. Built in 1885, the end came for this veteran in February 1960. It had been a sound investment by the Caledonian Railway.
