BR British Railways Steam Locomotive Class A4 60010 Dominion of Canada at Kings Cross in 1949
The first outing for the new non-stop Kings Cross-Edinburgh train, The Capitals Limited. No 60010 ‘Dominion of Canada’ makes a vigorous exit from the London terminus watched by the crew of N2 0-6-2T No 9495. This long distance non-stop express was renamed The Elizabethan in 1953, the year of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation. The A4 is carrying ex-LNER garter blue livery in British Railways ownership which was replaced by BR blue in 1950 and brunswick green in 1952. When later repainted by BR the locomotive wheels were finished in black.
