The press run of the West Riding Limited from Leeds Central to Kings Cross on 23rd September 1937. The man in the foreground, holding a sheet of paper is Robert A Thom, who was Gresley’s second in command and Mechanical Engineer for the southern LNER (based at Doncaster). Thom retired a year later, in 1938. The locomotive is seen as built, with black-backed nameplates. Later, the nameplates were backed in red.
