BR British Railways Steam Locomotive Class V2 60835 nameplate at Darlingon in 1962
Ex-works from Darlington in early March 1962, at which separate cylinders were fitted, V2 No 60835 still carried its Green Howard nameplates. A long term Heaton resident, it remained in service until October 1965 but it ran nameless for the last year or more as the plates had been removed for safe keeping. Presumably one at least of the nameplates was presented to the Regiment. Released to traffic in September 1938 as LNER No 4806, the engine was named at a ceremony at Richmond (Yorks) station on 24th September 1938 by Maj/-Gen H E Franklyn, the Colonel of the regiment. The occasion was the 250th anniversary of the raising of the Green Howards.
